A Russian lawmaker stresses all branches of power should pool efforts to counter terrorism

THESSALONIKI /Greece/, July 5. /TASS/. Russia’s initiative on the establishment of a broad anti-terrorism coalition is still in force, speaker of the Russian State Duma lower parliament house Sergei Naryshkin said on Tuesday.

"This initiative is still in place," he said.

He said that all branches of power, both executive and legislative, should pool efforts to counter terrorism. "From the point of view of inter-parliamentary cooperation, naturally, lawmakers should demonstrate solidarity and say it loudly and unequivocally that terrorism is inadmissible, that it is big evil which is to be uprooted," he said.

"And executive authorities are to pool efforts to take corresponding actions," Naryshkin noted, adding that this is what is proposed by Russia "to combat international terrorism, to combat terrorist organizations and groups acting in Syria and in Iraq."

"It is formation of a widest possible international coalition that would act in line with a common plan coordinating efforts of its various member countries," he said.

In his speech at the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 28, 2015, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that any actions taken in bypassing the United Nations Charter are illegitimate. He came out with an initiative to form a broad anti-terrorism coalition based on international law and the United Nations Charter.
