Russian Supreme Court upholds ruling in convicted Ukraine's filmmaker case
The court ruled to reject cassational appeal for consideration at a court session by the cassation court
MOSCOW, June 1. /TASS/. Russia’s Supreme Court refused on Wednesday to reconsider the sentence of Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov and Alexander Kolchenko convicted in Russia for plotting terrorist acts in Crimea.
Russia’s highest judicial body for civil, administrative, criminal, and other cases ruled "to reject cassational appeal for consideration at a court session by the cassation court."
The court told TASS the decision against the consideration of the complaint against the sentence was taken on May 30 by the judge of military board on criminal cases of Russia’s Supreme Court.
Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov, best known for his 2011 film Gamer, and his accomplice Alexander Kolchenko were found guilty of terrorism in August 2015. The North Caucasus district military court in Rostov sentenced Sentsov and Kolchenko to 20 and 10 years in jail, respectively, on charges of setting up a terrorist organization in Crimea and preparing terrorist acts.
