Putin content with Russia-ASEAN summit in Sochi

SOCHI, May 20. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin is content with the results of Russia-ASEAN summit held in the Black Sea resort of Sochi on May 19-20.
"There has not been a single disagreement (among the participants). There has been complete understanding about the tasks we are facing now and about how we should resolve them," Putin said, noting "concrete issues have been on the table."
"Generally, I liked the summit as despite its festive nature - we have gathered here to mark the 20th anniversary of our cooperation - the meeting was very useful and detailed," Putin said.
The summit participants "focused on concrete aspects of cooperation and what is more - on concrete projects as we have longtime economic, cultural and political ties with lots of countries," he said.
"In each case, with each country we have what to speak about," Putin said.
Russia is ready to offer new generation NPPs to ASEAN countries
Russia is ready to meet the growing needs of ASEAN countries in energy resources and build nuclear power plants of new generation in that region, President Vladimir Putin has said.
"Interaction in energy sector could be raised to a new level," Putin said, speaking at the meeting of heads of delegations with representatives of the Business Forum of ASEAN.
"ASEAN countries are experiencing growing demand for hydrocarbons and electricity. Russia is ready to meet this growing demand on a long-term basis, supplying energy, it is ready to offer the projects of nuclear power plants of new generation, ready to work in the electricity sector in the broad sense of the word," the Russian leader said.
According to Putin, cooperation in transport sector also looks promising.
"Russian business is interested in participating in construction of modern railways, for example, as we do today in Indonesia, where one project on the island of Kalimantan is being carried out, the investments in it total $1.9 billion," he said.
Putin also said that "it is necessary to develop advanced satellite navigation system."
"We propose to do this on the basis of the Russian GLONASS satellite navigation system. Russia is also ready to switch to the initiatives for the development of ASEAN region as a whole," the Russian leader said.
He invited businessmen from ASEAN countries "to participate in the programs of the advanced development of the Far East." He reiterated that Russia had created 12 territories with preferential treatment for businesses.

"I would like to invite all those present to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in June as well as to the Eastern Economic Forum, which we annually organize in Vladivostok on September 2-3," Putin said at a meeting of the heads of delegations.
Putin wished interesting, useful and promising contacts to all the participants in the meeting.
The Russia-ASEAN summit is held in Sochi on May 19-20 and has become the biggest international event in Russia in 2016. The summit is held under the slogan "Towards Strategic Partnership for the Sake of the Common Good."
Russia has been a dialog partner of ASEAN since July 1996. Similar partnership summits are normally held on the territory of member-states and the choice of Sochi as venue for the Russia-ASEAN summit on the partnership’s 20th anniversary is symbolic.
