Russia received no requests from Ukraine, Lithuania for spies’ transfer — justice minister

ST. PETERSBURG, May 18. /TASS/. Russia’s Justice Ministry has received no requests from Ukraine and Lithuania for transferring Valentin Vygovsky and Aristidas Tamosaitis convicted in Russia for espionage to these countries, Russian Justice Minister Alexander Konovalov told TASS at the Petersburg International Law Forum on Wednesday.

"No requests with regard to these persons have been received," the justice minister said.

The Moscow Region Court ruled on December 15, 2015 to find Vygovsky guilty under article 276 ("Espionage") of Russia’s Criminal Code and sentenced him to 11 years in a high-security prison.

On March 17, the Moscow City Court sentenced Tamosaitis to 12 years in prison. He was caught in the act of receiving documents with secret information from a Russian citizen.

Late last month, Ukrainian Deputy Justice Minister for European Integration Sergei Petukhov said Ukraine had sent a request to Russia for the transfer of Vygovsky.
