Putin meets Russian Security Council after talks with defense officials

Kremlin says Vladimir Putin informed the Russian Security Council about the key results of his meetings with the top-ranking officials of the Russian Defense Ministry

SOCHI, May 13. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with members of the Russian Security Council, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.

"Vladimir Putin informed the permanent members of the Russian Security Council about the key results of his meetings with the top-ranking officials of the Russian Defense Ministry and top executives of defense-related enterprises," Peskov said. "Apart from that, following today’s statement of the head of state the agenda included various issues linked with measures to secure strategic balance and ensure Russia’s national security on the background of the ongoing process of the creation of a missile shield positioning area."

Apart from that, according to the Kremlin spokesman, participants exchanged views on the current issues of the domestic agenda, including economy. Elections-related issues were not discussed, he added.

Participants in the meeting included Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, speaker of the Federation Council upper parliament house Valentina Matviyenko, speaker of the State Duma lower parliament house Sergei Naryshkin, secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev and his deputy Rashid Nurgaliyev, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, director of the Federal Security Service Alexander Bortnikov, director of the Foreign Intelligence Service Mikhail Fradkov.
