Russian, Jordanian foreign ministers discuss Syrian settlement over phone
MOSCOW, May 6. /TASS/. Political settlement in Syria was in focus of a telephone conversation between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Judeh, the Russian foreign ministry said on Friday.
"The two foreign ministers exchanged view on the development of the situation in the Middle East with a focus on the tasks of political settlement of the Syrian crisis and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict," the ministry said, adding that the conversation was initiated by the Jordanian side.
The two foreign ministers also discussed "a number of topical issues of further strengthening traditionally friendly relations between Russia and Jordan," the ministry said.
At meeting of the International Syria Support Group in Vienna in the autumn of 2015, Jordan was tasked to draw a list of terrorist organizations in Syria. The task has not been completed. However official Damascus has been insisting on the necessity of such a list to sift out terrorists from the opposition ‘on the ground’ and not to let terrorists take part in the Geneva talks on the Syrian settlement.
