Kremlin admits corruption remains problem in Russia

MOSCOW, April 6. /TASS/. Corruption in Russia remains a problem, but the struggle against it is continuing systematically and transparently, presidential press-secretary Dmitry Peskov has said.
"There have been steady and consistent onward actions to fight against corruption," he told the media. "They are obvious. They are absolutely transparent and well-known."
The Kremlin’s official recalled that investigative actions over corruption affairs were in progress in relation to both high-ranking officials and lower level civil servants.
Peskov also recalled measures to perfect anti-corruption legislation.
"It would be wrong to ignore the results of that work," Peskov said. "That corruption remains a problem has to be acknowledged, too. Very strenuous work is in progress in that connection."
Asked about Levada poll findings 44% of Russians do not believe Vladimir Putin is capable of defeating corruption in the country Peskov said that "it is worth taking a closer look at and understanding how the questions were formulated."
