Russia concerned over continuing provocations on Georgian-South Ossetian border
The provocations particularly include acts to damage warning informational signs and engineer obstacles
MOSCOW, March 24. /TASS/. Moscow is concerned over the continuing provocations on Georgia’s border with South Ossetia and intrusions of Georgian citizens and observers of the EU mission into the republic’s territory, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
"Representatives of Tskhinval have again warned Tbilisi about responsibility for negative consequences of such incidents and reminded about the need of strict observance of regimes of interstate borders, including by local citizens," the ministry said after international discussions on the South Caucasus in Geneva on March 22-23.
The provocations particularly include acts to damage warning informational signs and engineer obstacles, the ministry said although adding that no major incidents occurred and the number of crimes in the border areas has dropped.
The Geneva talks were attended by representatives of Russia, the United States and Georgia’s breakaway republics South Ossetia and Abkhazia, recognized by Moscow as independent states. The United Nations, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and the European Union co-chaired the discussion.
Russia’s delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin. The next round of discussions on security in the South Caucasus will be held in Geneva on June 14-15.
