Lavrov: Russia, Egypt determined to promote partnership
In their phone conversation the presidents of both countries confirmed their determination to consistently promote partnership without any pauses achieving maximum results, Russia's top diplomat says
MOSCOW, March 16. /TASS/. Russia and Egypt intend to promote their partnership without any pauses achieving maximum results, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday opening talks with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry.
"We meet often, this reflects the current state of our relations, the tone set by the two presidents," he said. "Our presidents have held a telephone conversation recently. They discussed in detail the current state of bilateral relations and exchanged views on the situation in the region, above all, in Syria and Libya."
"On all these issues they confirmed their determination to consistently promote our partnership without any pauses achieving maximum results," Lavrov said. "We have a packed agenda. I am sure we will be able to move forward in the directions outlined by our leaders."
The Russian-Egyptian contacts at the intergovernmental level contribute to strengthening stability in the region and enhancing Egypt’s role in the Middle East, the Egyptian foreign minister said at a meeting with State Duma speaker Sergey Naryshkin on Wednesday.
"The Egyptian government is very interested in boosting bilateral relations with Russia," Sameh Shoukry said. He drew attention to the fact that the two countries’ leaders held regular meetings, adding that this gave "a strong impetus to developing these relations."
Besides, the summits open up new prospects for strengthening ties between Russia and Egypt, the minister said.
In particular, he pointed to the prospects of creating the Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal area. "All this will strengthen our bilateral economic relations in the interests of our countries," he added.
