MP: Ukrainian lawmakers’ initiative to sever diplomatic relations with Russia suicidal
This move "continues a chain of political idiocy Ukraine’s authorities are persistently seeking to demonstrate," a Russian lawmaker says
MOSCOW, March 15. /TASS/. A Russian senior lawmaker said on Tuesday Ukrainian MP’s initiative to sever diplomatic relations with Russia is anti-popular and suicidal.
Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (parliament) said earlier on Tuesday it has registered a bill on severing diplomatic relations with Russia. The bill was initiated by lawmakers with Ukraine’s Radical Party Oksana Korchinskaya and Yuri Shukhevich, and off-faction lawmaker Vladimir Parasyuk known for ripping off a Russian flag from the building of the Russian consulate general in Lvov on March 9.
This move "continues a chain of political idiocy Ukraine’s authorities are persistently seeking to demonstrate," Sergei Zheleznyak, a deputy speaker of the Russian State Duma lower parliament house, said, adding that thousands of Ukrainians have to work in Russia to provide for their families in conditions of utter economic collapse in Ukraine.
"I hope what has remained of common sense in the heads of the rest of Ukrainian lawmakers will keep them off this anti-popular and suicidal initiative as its adoption will bring much closer the inevitable moment when this nationalist fluff is washed off by a wave of popular wrath," he said.
"Instead of doing reforms and reviving the economy, the Ukrainian authorities are begging the West for money to steel and are instigating another spiral of war against Donbass’ people," he said.
"A bunch of political windbags ready to ignore the interests and problems of their own people to please their wirepullers and nationalist henchmen are seeking to rob Ukrainian citizens of any possibility to survive," Zhelyznyak said.
