GROZNY, March 14. /TASS/. Chechen leader’s spokesman asked Russian prosecutors on Monday to open criminal case against Russian politician Ilya Yashin over his report on the situation in the North Caucasus republic.

According to Alvi Karimov, the report "Threat to National Security" presented by Yashin, the deputy chairman of Parnas party, in late February contains "gross slander, insult and groundless accusations against head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov." 

Karimov said he submitted an official request to the Prosecutor General’s Office and Russia’s Investigative Committee to bring Yashin to criminal responsibility saying that the report clearly has signs of igniting national and religious hatred.

The author "seeks to convince Russian citizens that Chechnya threatens Russia’s national security and may declare jihad on it," Karimov said, adding that Yashin tries to set Russia’s law enforcement bodies against the Chechen leader.

"The politician claims that there is an open conflict between them although in fact their relations are of a trust-based character and in line with the norms envisaged by Russian laws," he stressed.

The spokesman said there is no doubt that a new campaign has been launched today and forces behind it seek to "throw dirt at" the republic, its people and leadership and to make Russian citizens believe that Chechnya poses a threat and convince foreign investors that they should not pour money in the republic.

"The major goal is the intention to shatter situation in Russia through Chechnya," Karimov said.
