Human rights envoy: OSCE does not react seriously enough to journalists’ rights violations
According to Konstantin Dolgov, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatovic has taken a "floating" stand
MOSCOW, February 19. /TASS/. The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) does not respond seriously enough to violations of journalists’ rights, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Commissioner for Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law Konstantin Dolgov told a news conference on Friday.
"Any attempt to hamper the work of journalists is a violation. This negative trend is observed in many countries," he said. "We raise these issues all the time, raise the issue at the OSCE if not daily then weekly."
According to Dolgov, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatovic has taken a "floating" stand. "[They] do not work seriously preferring obscure discussions and forgetting that they should deal with specific media suppression cases," the diplomat said. "There is some reaction, but this is not enough."
