MAKHACHKALA, January 11. /TASS/. Russian law enforcers announced a regime of counter-terrorism operation in the village of Kvanada, in the country’s North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, where a militant was earlier eliminated in a special operation, a local anti-terrorism official told TASS on Monday.

"The regime was introduced as of 4:00 a.m. Moscow time [1:00 GMT] due to special operations underway in the region," the official said.

A source in the local law enforcement bodies told TASS earlier that a suspected militant was killed by law enforcers in the village of Kvanada and he was later identified as one of the leaders of a gang group.

Russia’s law enforcement agencies continue fighting militants in Dagestan for over 15 years since the battle phase of the second war against Islamist separatists in the neighboring Chechnya came to an end in 2000.

Attacks on security officials and civilians occur from time to time in Dagestan, Ingushetia and Kabardino-Balkaria.
