MOSCOW, December 23. /TASS/. The current situation in Russian-Turkish relations became the focal point of Wednesday’s meeting between Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the co-chairperson of the People’s Democratic Party, a pro-Kurdish political force in Turkey, Selahattin Demirtas, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release.
"The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, received in Moscow the co-chairman of Turkey’s parliamentary People’s Democratic Party and the delegation that accompanied him on the trip to Moscow as part of regular political contacts," it said.
During the discussion, Lavrov and Demirtas exchanged opinions on the situation that had taken shape in Russian-Turkish relations and in the first place on the November 24 incident, in which the Turkish Air Force brought down a Russian bomber on a mission in Syrian airspace.
"The sides also discussed developments in the Middle East with an accent on the efforts — inclusive of the efforts undertaken by the Kurds — to settle the crisis in Syria and to counteract the operations of the Islamic State grouping and other terrorist organizations," the press release said.
