Russian court convicts another person in 2012 Bolotnaya Square riots case
Ivan Nepomnyashchikh has denied any wrongdoing though the verdict says that the guilt has been established
MOSCOW, December 22. /TASS/. A Moscow Court has found Ivan Nepomnyashchikh guilty of complicity in mass riots in Bolotnaya Square in the center of Moscow on May 6, 2012 and an attack on a policeman, a TASS correspondent reports from the court.
The verdict says that the guilt of the accused person has been fully established in the course of court proceedings. The court is currently continuing reading out the verdict.
During the court hearings, the prosecutor asked the court to sentence the accused person to 3.5 years in a general regime penal colony. The accused person who has been under house arrest has denied any wrongdoing.
Nepomnyashchikh has been charged under the Russian Criminal Code for "participating in mass disorders accompanied by the destruction of property and the use of violence against authorities."
According to the investigators, during an authorized rally on May 6, 2012, he took an active part in mass riots accompanied by destruction of property and use of violence against public authorities endangering their life and health.
A total of over 400 persons were detained under the criminal investigation into the Bolotnaya riots, during which more than 30 policemen were injured and several dozen people were wounded.
Overall, about 30 people were suspects in the so-called main Bolotnaya case. Criminal prosecution against some of them was terminated due to amnesty announced on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Russian Constitution. The criminal case against Nepomnyashchikh was made a separate investigation.
