Russia supports Free Syrian Army participating in political settlement in Syria — diplomat
The Kurdish issue was not in the focus of attention at a meeting of Russia, the United States, Saudi Arabia and Turkey on October 29
VIENNA, October 30. /TASS/. Russia supports Free Syrian Army’s participation in the political settlement in Syria but does not understand who will represent it, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and special presidential representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov told journalists on Friday.
"In general, we support their participation as a structure. We do not yet understand who will represent it. We are waiting for them to manifest more clearly or for our partners who maintain relations with the Free Syrian Army to tell us," Bogdanov said.
He added that the main thing in settling the conflict in Syria is that "the Syrian opposition should understand what it wants and coordinate common approaches, from a delegation that will promote these approaches at negotiations with Syrian government, hopefully, as it is envisaged by the Geneva communique," the diplomat noted.
Kurdish issue not discussed at talks of Russia, US, Saudi Arabia and Turkey
According to the diplomat the Kurdish issue was not in the focus of attention at a meeting of Russia, the United States, Saudi Arabia and Turkey on October 29.
"No, the issue was not discussed as such," said Bogadnov, who is also Deputy Foreign Minister. "We simply proceed from the fact that representatives of different Kurdish parties, organizations must necessarily participate in talks on Syria," he added.
Turkey has repeatedly spoken negatively of Kurdish militia forces operating in Syria, suspecting them of terrorist activity.
