MOSCOW, September 30. /TASS/. Russia is in favor of the resumption of the six-party talks on the North Korean nuclear problem, speaker of the Russia’s Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko said on Wednesday.

"We are in favor of the six-party talks resumption on resolving the North Korea nuclear problem," Matviyenko said at a meeting with South Korean National Assembly speaker Chung Ui-hwa.

She added that "all the existing problems should and must be solved by political and diplomatic methods, not by mutual threats and military actions."

According to Matviyenko, Russia "is interested in peace and stability at the Korean peninsula, in strengthening mutual trust between South Korea and North Korea."

"We express our hope that the agreements concluded in August will lead to the conflict resolution in the two countries' relations," she said.

"We also seek a non-nuclear status on the peninsula," she said.

The six-party talks of China, South Korea, Russia, the US and Japan on North Korea nuclear program were suspended in 2009 on the initiative of Pyongyang.
