MOSCOW, September 21. /TASS/. The Moscow City Court has sentenced Gennady Kravtsov who worked for the Russian Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) to 14 years in jail for treason, a TASS correspondent reported from the courtroom on Monday.

The court hearings were held behind closed doors as the Kravtsov case materials are classified.

Kravtsov handed over classified information on Russia’s space intelligence to Sweden, a spokesperson for Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said. Investigators found that he leaked state secrets in an email sent to a radio-technical center of the Swedish defence ministry.

The move "posed a threat to Russia’s security," the spokesperson stressed.

The term for serving punishment will be counted since the detention on May 27, 2015. The prosecutors earlier called for sentencing Kravtsov to 15 years in a high-security prison.
