It is becoming "increasingly difficult" for EU countries "to reach agreements on sectoral restrictions," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin said

MOSCOW, November 8. /TASS/. EU member states have exhausted levers of pressure on Russia in their structural weakness, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin said in an interview with TASS.

It is becoming "increasingly difficult" for EU countries "to reach agreements on sectoral restrictions," he said. "The fact that the measures adopted against our country on October 12 were not officially designated as yet another, 22nd, sanctions package serves to confirm this very trend," the official added.

"Under the current circumstances, the Council of the EU has managed only to expand its the blacklists of individuals and entities. This once again highlights the structural weakness of the European bureaucracy, which has exhausted its leverage over Moscow but in order to save face can no longer halt its anti-Russian fervor or begin to reverse course," Pankin noted.

At the same time, the European Union is threatening to agree on a "full-fledged 22nd sanctions package in the near future," but "when and how it will be agreed upon remains unclear," he added.

"The EU cannot fail to realize that anti-Russian sanctions are not working, but are causing far greater damage to their own economies while also undermining global energy and food security," Deputy Foreign Minister said. "We firmly condemn any unilateral coercive measures taken by bypassing the UN Security Council, and we note the growing support for this position among the countries that make up the global majority," he concluded.
