Europe hoped for Ukraine truce to deploy troops there — senior Russian lawmaker
Pyotr Tolstoy noted that this option is unacceptable for Moscow
MOSCOW, November 8. /TASS/. Europeans naively hoped to secure at least a temporary truce in Ukraine to deploy their troops there, but this is unacceptable for Moscow, Pyotr Tolstoy, head of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, told TASS in an interview.
"Europeans had a very stupid and naive idea: they believed that by securing at least a temporary ceasefire from Russia, they would be able to deploy troops to Ukraine under the banner of a ‘coalition of the willing.’ This option is unacceptable for us, and nothing of the sort will happen," the lawmaker said.
The EU’s opinion might be taken into account when resolving the Ukrainian issue, but it "is not a priority," and it remains unknown "what it will look like by that time," Tolstoy said. "It has already changed three times," he added.
