MOSCOW, November 5. /TASS/. The future of the Japanese "journalist" detained in Russia on espionage charges will depend on the results of the investigation, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

"Further developments surrounding the individual who used his journalistic status for other, unlawful purposes will depend on the results of the investigation being conducted by the Federal Security Service (FSB)," the diplomat said at a briefing. She specified that the investigation "is being conducted by the FSB in full compliance with Russian law."

The Japanese "journalist" was detained by the FSB on October 15 and is charged under Article 276 of the Russian Criminal Code with espionage. A consular visit to the Japanese national at a pretrial detention center was arranged on October 26. "He did not complain of any health problems," Zakharova said, advising those seeking clarification of the detainee’s personal details to contact the Japanese Embassy in Russia.
