According to the Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department of International Organizations Kirill Logvinov, no UN member state should be left out

MOSCOW, November 4. /TASS/. A universal framework for reforming the UN Security Council that would satisfy an overwhelming majority has yet to emerge, Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department of International Organizations Kirill Logvinov said in an interview with TASS.

"A universal framework that could satisfy an overwhelming majority has yet to emerge, which is not surprising given the importance and sensitivity of the issue," Logvinov noted. "Nevertheless, painstaking efforts to find common ground must continue. There is simply no other way to reach mutually acceptable solutions," he added.

According to the diplomat, no UN member state should be left out. "Otherwise, the reform will only have negative consequences, undermining the Council’s legitimacy and effectiveness," he pointed out.

The issue of reforming the UN Security Council remains "one of the key items on the UN agenda, as it involves restructuring its principal body." "It is being discussed as part of intergovernmental negotiations in New York, where member states and their groups present their reform proposals and seek to find common ground," the diplomat told TASS.
