Putin thanks Ghana president for supporting Russian resolutions at UN
The Russian leader noted that relations between Moscow and Accra were based on the foundation laid back in the years of Ghana's formation as an independent state and the struggle against the legacy of colonialism
MOSCOW, October 30. /TASS/. Russian leader Vladimir Putin has thanked Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama for his support of Russia's resolutions at the United Nations.
"We are interested in strengthening coordination with Ghana on international platforms, and we are grateful for the traditional support of Russian resolutions at the United Nations," Putin said, opening a meeting with his counterpart. "And, of course, we welcome the independent line of Accra under your leadership, Mr. president, in the fight against neocolonialism, and indeed in the conduct of foreign policy."
Putin said that his meeting with Mahama was a good opportunity to exchange views on the topical issues of Russian-Ghanaian relations. "We appreciate your active participation in the events of the third Russia-Africa summit. Mr. president, we are very grateful for your personal participation in these events," he said.
Putin noted that relations between Russia and Ghana are based on the foundation laid back in the years of Ghana's formation as an independent state and the struggle against the legacy of colonialism.
"We were among the first to establish diplomatic relations with Accra. We have been developing them since 1958. They helped to create industrial facilities, social infrastructure, and trained national personnel. And today, in a rapidly changing world, we are trying to preserve and enhance this common heritage," he said.
