According to the Russian president, strengthening the central role of the UN is among them

MOSCOW, October 30. /TASS/. Russia and Kenya share a common position on a number of key international issues, including strengthening the central role of the United Nations, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at his meeting with Kenyan President William Ruto in Moscow.

"We share a common position on a number of key international issues, including strengthening the central role of the UN, the importance of upholding its charter, and shaping a polycentric world order," the Russian president stated, adding that a UN office is located in the capital of Kenya.

"This is the only office of a universal organization located in a country of the Global South," he continued. "Nairobi even boasts the unofficial status of the world’s environmental capital."

"We are very pleased about this; all of this is largely due to the efforts of the Kenyans themselves," Putin noted, recalling that Russia had consistently advocated for the establishment of a UN office in Kenya.

Moreover, Putin pointed out that the both countries uphold bilateral visits at the level of top diplomats, while contacts between the parliaments are regular.

"Fruitful cultural and humanitarian cooperation is being supported. We are assisting in the training of national personnel and are gradually increasing the quota for your country’s youngsters," the president continued.

"As far as I understand, they are very pleased studying in Russia, and 70 scholarships have been allocated for civilian specialties for the next year," Putin said, adding that Russian creative groups regularly hold performances in Kenya, and Kenyan performers, in turn, participate in international music competitions in Russia.
