Russia wants to avoid Hormuz scenario in Baltic Sea — Putin
The Russian president said Baltic security had come up during telephone talks with Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store
MOSCOW, October 29. /TASS/. Moscow does not want a situation similar to that in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf to develop in the Baltic Sea, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a press conference following the Russia-Africa summit.
He said Baltic security had come up during telephone talks with Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store. The discussions touched on Finland’s and many other European countries’ efforts to uphold international maritime law and their hope that all international actors would do the same.
"We support that approach. What is the alternative? A situation similar to the one in the Strait of Hormuz. Does anyone want the Baltic Sea to face the same situation as the Persian Gulf or the Strait of Hormuz? I do not know. We do not want that," Putin said.
