Developing Africa’s hydropower potential directly linked to water conservation — Putin
The president added that Russia is ready to assist Africa in modernizing existing power plants
MOSCOW, October 28. /TASS/. Developing Africa’s hydropower potential is directly linked to water conservation, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced at the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum.
"The development of Africa’s hydropower potential - which is far from being fully tapped - is directly connected to water conservation. This year marks the 55th anniversary of commissioning the Aswan High Dam, one of the enduring symbols of high-tech cooperation between our country and the African continent," the Russian president said.
The head of state noted that the African Union has designated ensuring sustainable access to clean water as a key objective for this year.
"The African Union has identified securing sustainable access to clean water as a major priority for the current year. Russia is ready to share its unique, responsible water-management technologies to help efficiently and carefully manage water resources. This encompasses land reclamation, the design and construction of irrigation canals and hydraulic structures, digital water facility management, and the monitoring of irrigation networks and water loss zones," Putin said.
He added that Russia is ready to assist Africa in modernizing existing power plants.
"Another company of ours, RusHydro, is prepared to help our African friends design new facilities and modernize existing power plants, as well as develop modular, localized power generation to supply remote, isolated areas in Africa," he said.
