Russian envoy highlights equality among members of post-Soviet security bloc
Boris Gryzlov added that Russia is interested in strengthening peace and stability in Eurasia and will therefore continue to consistently promote the interests of collective security
MINSK, October 27. /TASS/. The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has established itself as a body where decisions are made based on common goals and objectives, Russian Ambassador to Belarus Boris Gryzlov said in an interview with the National Defense magazine.
"The CSTO has established itself as an organization where decisions are made based on common goals and objectives, and members are not divided into primary and secondary ones. Preserving this approach is crucial. Russia is fully interested in strengthening peace and stability in Eurasia, which is why it will continue to consistently promote the interests of collective security," he said.
According to Gryzlov, the CSTO is successfully fulfilling its tasks despite rapid changes in the global situation and in the organization's zone of responsibility, as hybrid threats are intensifying, and military and political pressure is accompanied by information, economic and other forms of attacks.
The Russian envoy noted that security issues could not be considered in isolation from the global situation, as "the excessive ambitions of Westerners have led to the collapse of the system of global security agreements."
"In contrast, the CSTO has never sought to become a bloc aimed at confrontation. This is what makes our approach fundamentally different from the North Atlantic Alliance’s behavior. NATO’s actions only increase tensions in the countries and regions where it is present in any form," Gryzlov stressed.
