Dmitry Peskov reiterated Moscow’s position that the Arctic should remain an area of mutually beneficial cooperation rather than confrontation

MOSCOW, October 20. /TASS/. European countries should sort out their position regarding dialogue on cooperation in the Arctic, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

Earlier, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said that the European Union planned to counter Russia and China in the Arctic. According to her, EU and NATO countries will seek to make sure the Northern Sea Route remains open to all vessels.

Commenting on her remarks, Peskov reiterated Moscow’s position that the Arctic should remain an area of mutually beneficial cooperation rather than confrontation. However, this requires dialogue, which Europeans oppose. "European diplomats should sort out their position and perhaps explain to each other how they are going to establish some forms of cooperation without engaging in dialogue. From our standpoint, it’s impossible," the Kremlin spokesman stressed.
