Zelensky sets unacceptable conditions for holding elections — Lavrov
According to the Russian foreign minister, Vladimir Zelensky has already made it clear that he is not interested in elections
BAKU, October 15. /TASS/. Vladimir Zelensky does not want elections; it is evident from the unacceptable conditions he has set forward for holding them, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated.
"Mr. Zelensky has already made it clear that he is not interested in elections because he has set conditions that are obviously unacceptable," the top diplomat told reporters following his participation in the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Baku.
When asked whether Moscow is ready to make concessions if the presidential election in Ukraine does take place, Lavrov noted: "We’re not going to speculate."
At the same time, the foreign minister warned: "There will be no ceasefire intended to bring him [Zelensky] back to his senses and pump him with weapons."
Zelensky’s presidential term officially expired on May 20, 2024. However, Kiev did not hold the next election, claiming that it is impossible until martial law ends.
On October 10, US President Donald Trump stated that Zelensky should hold elections and that he could have ended the conflict in Ukraine and concluded a peace agreement many times already.
