Common Eurasian space to take shape gradually but steadily — Lavrov
The foreign minister pointed in this regard to cooperation memorandums among the secretariats of integration organizations including the CIS, the Eurasian Economic Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations
TURKMENBASHI /Turkmenistan/, October 7. /TASS/. Eurasian security and a common Eurasian economic space will take shape gradually but steadily, given the continent’s vast size and diverse civilizational foundations, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference following a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
"Moscow was not built in a day, and Eurasian security and the Eurasian economic space will also take time to take shape, but the process will move forward steadily," he said. "This is a highly complex process, given not only the scale and size of the Eurasian continent but also its history and the diversity of civilizational foundations across this geopolitical space. But the work is underway."
Lavrov pointed in this regard to cooperation memorandums among the secretariats of integration organizations including the CIS, the Eurasian Economic Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
"Regular contacts have been established. The heads of these secretariats visit one another, while the countries chairing the respective organizations also exchange visits. During these contacts, the parties not only share general assessments of the situation in order to compare them but also coordinate possible joint actions, taking into account each organization’s medium-and long-term programs," Lavrov stressed.
