GROZNY, October 5. /TASS/. Ramzan Kadyrov has taken office as head of Russia’s North Caucasus Chechen Republic for a new term, swearing the oath in Chechen and Russian in traditional attire during an official ceremony, a TASS correspondent reported.
After the swearing-in, Magomed Daudov, regional government chairman, presented Kadyrov with the standard of the head of Chechnya. The ceremony was held in Grozny on October 5, on Kadyrov’s 50th birthday.
"Today I am taking office as head [of the republic]. And it is a huge responsibility before the Almighty, the people and the Russian president. I promise to protect the Quran, the Constitutions of Russia and the Chechen Republic, the rights of our residents to life and to a happy future for our children," Kadyrov said.
He stressed that the team of Chechnya’s first president, Akhmat Kadyrov, had brought his ideas to life.
"We have not let down Akhmat-Khadzhi, we have backed up his every word with concrete deeds. I would like to highlight the role of Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, who believed in Akhmat-Khadzhi and forged a strong friendship with him. Vladimir Vladimirovich then gave his word that the war would end, the republic would be restored and the rights of Chechens would be respected. And he kept his word. We have not only restored the Chechen Republic. We have set in motion a new development strategy," the head of Chechnya noted.
