Ukraine will have to pay over one trillion rubles (more than 11.8 billion dollars) in reparations to rebuild the Donetsk People’s Republic after all the destruction and suffering the region has endured as a result of the Ukrainian armed aggression, Alexander Voloshin, a Russian senator representing the republic, said in an interview.

"Security for Donbass means more than just the absence of hostilities. It means that people can live peacefully in their homes, work, and educate their children without fearing for their future. Reparations are a more than appropriate issue. In estimating the amount, I am guided by the Russian Investigative Committee's assessment of over one trillion rubles. This is the price of the destruction and suffering that Donbass has endured," the senator said.

According to Voloshin, after the ceasefire, it is necessary to ensure demining, the restoration of public infrastructure, the return of evacuees, the reconstruction of housing, and the provision of medical care. "Peace must be lasting and just. Only then will it be true peace rather than just another lull before a new war," the senator concluded.
