MOSCOW, September 28. /TASS/. Russia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) doesn’t take into account Western countries' assessments of Russian elections, as it considers domestic recognition of the election results to be the most important factor, CEC Chairwoman Ella Pamfilova said.

"The West a priori refused to recognize our elections. That's not our concern. What matters is people’s support," she said at a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.

She stressed that during the election campaign, the Central Election Commission did its utmost to honor the basic principles of openness and transparency of the electoral system, despite the difficult conditions the voting took place under. According to Pamfilova, people’s active involvement demonstrated their understanding of the significance of the elections for the country.

She noted that for the first time since 2003, all of the CEC members, including those who represent parliamentary parties, shared a consolidated view on the results of the parliamentary campaign. This fact, in her words, means that all the participants in the political process recognize the election outcome.

Elections to the Russian State Duma, or lower house of parliament, of the ninth convocation were held on September 18-20.
