Russia considers any move by Germany regarding the Russian House to be a possibility; the situation is already bordering on absurdity and sheer madness, Deputy Foreign Minister Dmitry Lyubinsky said when asked about the potential expropriation of the Russian House building by German authorities.

"Further steps by Germany are to be expected. Time will tell what form they take. One can understand a great deal about the logic driving them. However, it is difficult to comprehend how this is being pushed to the point of total absurdity – if not outright lunacy," he said during a roundtable discussion titled "The Era of Y.A. Kvitsinsky: Marking the 90th Anniversary of the Distinguished Diplomat and Germany Expert" at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

On September 1, the German government officially held Russia responsible for the drone incident that occurred at Leipzig/Halle Airport in early August and announced the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Bonn, the cessation of operations of the Russian House in Berlin, and other measures.
