NEW DELHI, September 18. /TASS/. More than 3,500 people took part in voting in the State Duma elections at the construction site of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Bangladesh, the Russian Embassy in Bangladesh said.

"Following their compatriots in other countries, Russian citizens residing in Bangladesh joined the electoral process. Early voting in the elections for deputies to the State Duma of the Federal Assembly took place at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant construction site from September 15 to 17. Project employees were able to vote without leaving their workplace. More than 3,500 people exercised their right to vote over the three days," the embassy said.

The diplomatic mission noted the interest and active civic engagement shown by voters and expressed its gratitude to the construction site administration for its significant contribution to organizing the electoral process.

"We remind you that on September 20, the Russian Embassy in Dhaka will open its doors to compatriots wishing to vote for State Duma deputies," it was stated in the statement.

Elections for deputies to the ninth State Duma are being held from September 18 to 20. The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, consisting of two VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2,400 MW, is being built under a Russian design 160 km from the Bangladeshi capital under a general contract signed on December 25, 2015. Bangladesh selected the Russian VVER-1200 reactor design for its first nuclear power plant, which was successfully implemented at two units of the Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant. Russia provided Bangladesh with $11.9 billion in state-backed export loans.
