West Bank nearing point of no return — envoy to UN
Vasily Nebenzya called on Israel to abandon any unilateral steps, take effective measures to curb settler violence and immediately resume compliance with relevant UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions
UNITED NATIONS, August 11. /TASS/. The situation in the West Bank is nearing a "point of no return," creating risks of profound destabilization of the military and political situation across the region, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said.
"The West Bank is approaching a point of no return, with risks of profound destabilization of the military and political situation throughout the region. The reasons for this dangerous trend are well known: the creeping Israeli expansion in the occupied Palestinian territory, escalating settler violence and an unprecedented tightening of Israeli restrictions on the movement of Palestinian residents," Nebenzya said at a UN Security Council meeting.
He called on Israel to abandon any unilateral steps, take effective measures to curb settler violence and immediately resume compliance with relevant UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions.
