MOSCOW, August 11. /TASS/. European elites are seriously concerned about the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) decision to lift sanctions on the Russian Olympic Committee and Russian athletes, so Brussels is ready to take any necessary measures to prevent Russia from returning to international sports, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) reported.

"The EU is ready for everything to stop Russia from returning to international sports," the SVR press bureau said in a release.

"According to information available to the Foreign Intelligence Service, so-called European elites are seriously concerned about the IOC's decision to remove all restrictions on the Russian Olympic Committee and Russian athletes. Brussels and other European capitals complain that the IOC's move downplays the West's multi-year efforts to 'isolate' Russia in international sports. The prospect of Russian athletes participating fully in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles with the national flag and anthem causes special concern, bordering on panic, among European bureaucrats," the SVR noted.
