MOSCOW, August 8. /TASS/. The Kiev regime, together with the West and radicals in Georgia, is trying to drag Tbilisi into new bloody adventures in the South Caucasus, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement timed to coincide with the anniversary of the August 2008 events in the Caucasus.
"A real contribution to stabilizing the situation in the border areas should be the launch of the process of delimitation of the Georgian-South Ossetian and Georgian-Abkhaz state borders, followed by their demarcation. These tasks acquire particular significance against the backdrop of attempts by Westerners, the Nazi regime in Kiev and Georgian radical political forces to drag Tbilisi into new bloody adventures in the South Caucasus," the ministry noted.
he Russian side expects the earliest possible start of practical efforts to develop and sign an agreement on the non-use of force between Tbilisi, Sukhumi and Tskhinvali, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"The Russian side calls on all participants to pay special attention to the resolution of the priority task of the International Discussions on Security and Stability in the South Caucasus - ensuring durable security for Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and in this regard expects the earliest possible start of practical efforts to develop and sign an agreement on the non-use of force between Tbilisi, on the one hand, and Sukhumi and Tskhinvali, on the other. The adoption of such legal obligations is a reliable guarantee against a repetition of the tragic events of August 2008," the ministry noted.
"Statements by the leadership of Georgia regarding the need for reconciliation with Abkhazians and South Ossetians are being recorded, which give hope that the aforementioned transformation of approaches will not remain at the level of declarations, but will be backed by concrete practical actions to settle relations with Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The Russian side is ready to continue providing comprehensive assistance to the parties in advancing the negotiation process, strengthening trust and building interstate relations in the interests of stability and security in the South Caucasus," the ministry noted.
