MOSCOW, August 6. /TASS/. Armenia is "flirting" with the Kiev regime, which raises questions about Yerevan’s readiness for an alliance with Moscow, Alexey Fadeyev, deputy director of the information and press department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said.

"One way or another, the aforementioned line — and part of it is undoubtedly the demonstrative ‘flirting’ with the Kiev regime — raises serious doubts about the readiness of the ruling circles in Armenia for a genuinely allied cooperation with Russia," the diplomat said at a briefing.

"And if Yerevan is seeking to have its interests taken into account, then why shouldn’t Moscow receive a similar reciprocal request from its Armenian partners? So far, we see that the leadership perceives the prospects for our relations as a one-way street. And, of course, we are counting on a more realistic and balanced approach."

In May, Vladimir Zelensky took part in the European Political Community in Yerevan and was warmly received by Armenia.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Armenia, which had previously assured Moscow that it would take no steps against Russia, had in fact violated these promises by failing to respond to Zelensky’s threats to launch strikes against Moscow on May 9. She pointed out that such a reaction to the way Zelensky from the territory of Armenia — which regularly received assistance and support from Russia and its people — was pushing European countries towards a direct military confrontation with Russia is unlikely to be forgotten.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan later said that he sees no problem in inviting Zelensky to Yerevan, as he does not consider his country to be an ally of Russia on the issue of Ukraine.
