MOSCOW, July 29. /TASS/. Fighters of Russia’s Battlegroup Center’s 506th Guards Motor Rifle Regiment are using Molniya-PVO interceptor drones to ram enemy drones without using their warheads, as their dive velocity reaches 300 km/h, the military said in a video shown on the Zvezda TV channel.

The service members said that the Molniya-PVO’s weight and speed allow it to destroy enemy targets even without a warhead. The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) can simply ram the enemy drone, after which the Ukrainian operator has no chance of continuing the flight. The altitude at which the operators fly is standard for enemy fixed-wing UAVs. It is precisely these UAVs that Russian interceptors are hunting.

"It was designed and developed to combat fixed-wing UAVs, that is, strike and reconnaissance drones of this format. It can also shoot down the same ‘babka’ (the Baba-Yaga heavy rotorcopter - TASS), but for the most part, it’s designed to combat strike aircraft," said a Molniya-PVO operator with the call sign Ivanych.

A combat engineer operator with the call sign Tourist said that assembling the interceptor takes no more than 10 minutes. "The bird is very convenient overall, very easy to assemble. In terms of speed, it has proven itself very well," he noted. The Molniya-PVO’s standard range is about 15 km, its speed is about 120 km/h, and when diving on a target, it can reach speeds of up to 300 km/h.
