New German envoy may hinder dialogue with Moscow by talking of demands for Russia — MFA

MOSCOW, July 28. /TASS/. The statements of the new German ambassador to Russia, Clemens von Goetze, regarding demands for Russia may lead to his dialogue with Moscow failing to develop, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has stated.

"The new German ambassador, having barely arrived in Russia, attempted to deliver a public greeting by stating that he would demand something from the Russian government. This was a clear false start. With such an understanding of the purpose of his diplomatic mission, the German diplomat's dialogue in Moscow will not succeed," the diplomat said on her Telegram channel.

"He also said that Russian citizens had given him a warm welcome. Given that he does not speak Russian, we would ask him not to be deluded: perhaps you misunderstood Russian idiomatic expressions. Therefore, we strongly recommend that the ambassador not attribute his fantasies to Russian citizens," Zakharova added.
