Romanian ambassador leaves Russian Foreign Ministry without comment
Christian Istrate spent about 30 minutes there
MOSCOW, June 25. /TASS/. Romanian Ambassador to Moscow Cristian Istrate, who had been summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry, left the building without giving any comment, having spent about 30 minutes at the ministry's headquarters on Smolenskaya Square, a TASS correspondent reported.
Earlier, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told TASS that the ambassador had been summoned to be informed of Russia's retaliatory measures in response to the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Constanta.
In late May, Romania's Ministry of National Defense reported that a drone had crashed onto the roof of an apartment building in the city of Galati. Bucharest blamed Russia for the incident. The Russian ambassador was summoned to Romania's Foreign Ministry and informed of diplomatic measures that would be taken in response.
Following a meeting of the Supreme Council of National Defense, Romanian President Nicusor Dan announced the decision to close Russia's Consulate General in Constanta and declare the consul general persona non grata. Zakharova told TASS that the attention surrounding the drone incident in Romania was intended to divert focus from the killing of children in Starobelsk by Vladimir Zelensky and to provide justification for the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Constanta.
