Cargo traffic via Northern Sea Route expected to reach 70 mln tons by 2030
First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Vladimir Yakushev stressed that the Far East and the Arctic are not only about geography and resources, but above all about the people who live, work, serve and raise children in these territories
VLADIVOSTOK, May 25. /TASS/. Cargo traffic along the Northern Sea Route should reach 70 mln metric tons by 2030, as the route holds strategic importance, First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council and Secretary of the General Council of the United Russia party Vladimir Yakushev said.
"A separate topic is the Northern Sea Route. This is a strategic route of global significance. Our goal is to increase cargo traffic to 70 mln metric tons by 2030," Yakushev said.
He stressed that the Far East and the Arctic are not only about geography and resources, but above all about the people who live, work, serve and raise children in these territories. According to him, key decisions should be made precisely in their interests.
Yakushev also said that a proposal had been put forward to create a special section in United Russia’s new people’s program dedicated to Arctic development.
"This idea deserves the most serious consideration. After all, the Arctic, like the Far East, is a territory with its own unique way of life. Special approaches are truly needed here, and it is important to enshrine them in our main policy document," the politician noted.
