Zaporozhye NPP, Energodar see increased Ukrainian troop activity during weekend
According to ZNPP Communications Director Yevgenia Yashina, the Ukranian attacks continue around the clock, with both artillery threats and drone activity
MELITOPOL, May 18. /TASS/. High activity by Ukrainian troops was recorded over the past weekend around Energodar and facilities linked to the operation of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, ZNPP Communications Director Yevgenia Yashina told TASS.
"Over the weekend, we observed increased activity by the Ukrainian military around Energodar and facilities connected to the power plant’s operations," Yashina said. "Attacks by the Ukrainian military continue virtually around the clock, with both artillery threats and drone activity being observed near infrastructure facilities and the surrounding area," she added.
Ukrainian forces shelled the plant’s transport workshop with artillery over the weekend. A UAV attack on the Raduga substation was also reported. In addition, a Ukrainian drone crashed near the plant’s power units.
Yashina said the attacks appeared aimed not only at damaging infrastructure but also at exerting psychological pressure on plant employees.
"The nature of the attacks indicates not only attempts to damage infrastructure, but also continued psychological pressure on the station’s staff and the city’s residents," she noted.
Ukrainian forces have attacked the ZNPP’s transport workshop, which handles critical logistics, on several occasions, likely in an attempt to undermine the plant’s operational stability, she added.
"As for the ZNPP transport department, this unit provides critical logistical support for the plant’s internal operations, including the movement of personnel and equipment, as well as the execution of production tasks. The enemy likely views such facilities as a way to exert pressure on the plant’s operational stability and the functioning of the satellite city," Yashina concluded.
