Kallas would face difficult time as negotiator with Russia, Kremlin spokesman says

EU foreign policy chief won't have an easy time, Dmitry Peskov said

MOSCOW, May 17. /TASS/. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas should not become a negotiator with Moscow as she would face a difficult time in that role, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Vesti journalist Pavel Zarubin.

"It is in Kaja Kallas's interests not to be a negotiator. She won't have an easy time. If you remember, [Russian President Vladimir] Putin said that it could generally be anyone who hasn't managed to say a lot of bad things," the Kremlin spokesman noted.

Earlier, Putin said that former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder was the preferred candidate for possible negotiations between the EU and Russia. He added that the Russian side had never been closed to negotiations.

According to Kallas, Schroeder's candidacy as a negotiator between Russia and the EU is ruled out. The EU foreign policy chief believes that she could lead the negotiations in his place.
