CHISINAU, May 16. /TASS/. The Russian embassy in Chisinau receives a large number of requests from residents of Transnistria for citizenship, an embassy official told TASS, commenting on the decree on the simplified admission to Russian citizenship of residents of the unrecognized republic.

"We note that the embassy regularly and in large numbers received applications from residents of Transnistria wishing to acquire Russian citizenship. The admission procedure in accordance with the decree will be launched upon completion of the necessary technical approvals. Becoming a Russian citizen is a purely voluntary act," the official said.
