EU, NATO representative cannot be effective as UN chief — senior Russian diplomat
Kirill Logvinov said such a candidate "may continue attempts to turn the global organization into a kind of supranational structure"
MOSCOW, April 4. /TASS/. Any representative of European Union or NATO countries will be guided by neo-colonial principles and will not be effective as UN secretary general, Kirill Logvinov, director of the Department of International Organizations at the Russian Foreign Ministry, wrote in an op-ed for TASS.
"Amid a growing moral and ethical confrontation, a conflict of values between the global majority and the Western minority, any future representative of EU and NATO member states or a person holding a dual (Western) citizenship, once in the UN secretary general’s seat, will simply be guided by the principles of ideological brotherhood and bloc solidarity. It is not in their interest to dismantle what is essentially a neo-colonial system within the Secretariat," the diplomat noted.
He said such a candidate "may continue attempts to turn the global organization into a kind of supranational structure." "Western countries will not voluntarily give up the levers of influence that have emerged in violation of the principle of fair geographic representation," Logvinov added.
