Russia hopes to keep working with Egypt to fight fake news — foreign minister
Sergey Lavrov noted that lies are used to shift blame, to organize false flag operations, and the West "excelled in this art"
MOSCOW, April 3. /TASS/. Russia expects to keep working with Egypt to fact-check questionable reporting, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated at a press conference following talks with top Egyptian diplomat Badr Abdelatti.
"Speaking about the media sphere, some time ago, back in 2024, on our initiative, the Global Fact-Checking Network was established, and it has already held several international forums. The third international forum called 'Dialogue on Fakes' took place in September 2025. <...> Egypt actively participated in the last conference, which took place in September last year in Moscow. I am confident that this cooperation will continue in this sphere as well," the minister noted.
"There is no need to explain how in the modern world, when lies are not white, they are meant to cause direct harm, to hurt the innocent. Lies are used to shift blame, to organize false flag operations, and our Western colleagues have certainly excelled in this art. So, this International Fact-Checking Association is fighting this scourge that has now flooded the media space. It unites representatives from more than 50 states, over 100 experts, as such an initiative core," Lavrov added.
The Global Fact-Checking Network (GFCN) was founded in December 2004 by TASS, the "Regional Dialogue" organization and the "New Media Workshop," currently comprising 55 members worldwide.
