US should remember consequences of ignoring other countries' interests — Russian diplomat

Sergey Ryabkov noted that in recent years US policy has been characterized by a consistent withdrawal from arms control agreements

MOSCOW, April 3. /TASS/. The United States should not forget what consequences may result from disregarding international law and the interests of other states, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said in an interview with TASS Analytical Center, commenting on the situation around Cuba.

Answering a question on whether the legal significance of US commitments following the Cuban Missile Crisis remains valid today, he pointed to the relevance of "all agreements that have not been torn up by the American side".

"The compromise reached in the most difficult conditions and amid the highest global risks is today a reminder to Washington of what the consequences may be of disregarding international law and the interests of other states," Ryabkov stressed.

At the same time, the senior Russian diplomat noted that in recent years US policy has been characterized by a consistent withdrawal from arms control agreements.

The situation in Cuba has sharply deteriorated since late January 2026 after the US administration announced measures aimed at a full blockade of fuel supplies to the island. The energy situation has become critical. In March, the national power grid failed three times, the latest outage occurring on March 21, leaving the country without electricity for long periods.

Cuba is facing an acute shortage of gasoline and diesel fuel. Several foreign airlines have suspended flights to the country due to a lack of aviation fuel at airports, which is necessary for aircraft refueling.
