Russia sees attempts to weaken SCO role in region, will block them — top diplomat
Sergey Lavrov noted that countries outside the region were "actively operating both in Central Asia and other parts" of the Eurasian continent
MOSCOW, April 3. /TASS/. Russia detects attempts to undermine the role of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the region and will make every effort to prevent this, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a meeting with SCO Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev.
"Indeed, not only individual states and regions, but also international organizations, as a way of advancing collective foreign policy ideas, are facing major challenges. In this turbulent environment, in my view, the SCO is performing effectively. We will do everything to ensure that attempts to weaken our organization, reduce its importance and role in Eurasian affairs, do not succeed. We are observing such attempts," the foreign minister emphasized.
Lavrov added that countries outside the region are "actively operating both in Central Asia and other parts" of the Eurasian continent.
